Masan story

Masan is a city that began to develop as a trading port called "Masanpo" in the late 19th century during the late Joseon Dynasty, around 1914. It was an important city for trade and a key transportation hub during the Japanese colonial period. After Korea's liberation, the city was renamed Masan in 1949. It is the birthplace of the 4.19 Revolution, which marked the beginning of the democratization movement in Korea in the 1960s. The city was also a center for the democracy movement in the late 1970s, along with Busan, as they overthrew the authoritarian regime. At the same time, Masan Free Trade Zone and Hanil Synthetic Fiber were pioneers in earning foreign currency and driving the city's industrial development. At this time, Chang-dong in Masan was so crowded that it could be compared to Myeongdong, and Masan was growing rapidly to be one of the seven major cities in the country.

마산의 소개

조선 말기 19세기(1914년) 후반부터 ‘마산포’ 무역항으로 개항하여 본격적으로 개발되었다. 일제강점기 당시 철도의 요충지이며 무역 중요 도시였던 마산은 해방 이후 1949년 마산시로 명칭을 변경하였다. 1960년대 대한민국 민주화의 시작을 알린 4.19혁명의 불씨를 지핀 곳이다. 1970년대 후반 부산과 함께 유신 체제를 타도하는 부마 민주 항쟁의의 주 무대였던 도시 민주화의 성지였다. 동시대에 마산자유무역지역과 한일합섬은 함께 외화벌이의 선구주자이며 마산 산업 발전의 원동력이었다. 이후로 20년간 마산의 창동은 명동을 비교할 정도로 사람이 많았었고. 전국 7대 도시라고 할 정도로 급성장하는 마산이었다.

Our story

The Birth of Masanai 

A time when only the strong survived. We were born in Masan in the 80s and 90s. We all experienced getting mugged in the bustling Chang-dong, eating tteokbokki in That-street, and going on dates to watch movies in Hapseong-dong. With these beautiful memories of Masan, we went on to find our own paths and conquered the world 

Masan, a place we always yearn for and never forget while living away from home. However, now that Masan, which used to be a center of subculture, is gradually being forgotten. we wanted to do something together to share our old memories. With this sincere intention, Masanai was born on 3. 15. 2022, and we aim to reminisce about the nostalgia of the old times in our own way.

마사나이의 탄생

강한 자만 살아남던 시대, 8~90년대 마산에서 태어난 우리들, 사람 많던 창동에서 같이 삥도 뜯기고, 댓거리에서 콧물 훔치며 떡볶이도 먹고 합성동에서 영화 보며 데이트도 했던 마산의 아름다운 추억을 잔뜩 가지고 어른이 되어 각자의 길을 찾아 세계를 누볐다. 타지에서 고향을 그리워하며 늘 잊지 않은 마산. 스트리트 문화와 각종 서브컬처의 중심지였던 마산이 역사 속으로 점점 잊혀 가고 있는 지금, 우리는 알 수 없는 씁쓸함을 느끼며 옛 기억을 같이 공유하고 싶어서 뭐라도 하고 싶었다. 2022년 3월 15일, 이러한 진심으로 탄생한 마사나이는 우리만의 방식으로 옛 시대의 향수를 추억하고자 한다.
